13:20 - Howdy.  My teeth are all smooth and clean since my visit to the dentist the morning.  Gotta go back to get a little cavity fixed up.  Figures, I'm a candy freak - gotta stop that.  I need to become a vegetarian.

Just got a call from Chybo, time for some more fun with the back hoe.

I just did some major surgery on two IBM 240X laptops for one of my customers.  One of the units had a broken LCD, so I swapped that along with the hard drive and some RAM in to the other system, which was a bit newer/faster anyway.  That all went very smooth, but now trying to get all the right software for it is giving me headaches.  Some sites, like Dell's, have a pretty straight forward way to scan your system and show you what's available, but even theirs doesn't work as it should.  If you haven't already installed the hardware it won't detect it, and that's just a pain in the ass.

I'm almost up to 19,000 songs in my collection.  Don't be too jealous.

Hmm... how about some quick news?

Apple Sells $1million of Music in a Week
Impressive.

That's it, sorry, but I've gotta roll out.  Speak at ya soon.

21:10 - Just got done with some hoops at up the Brecksville rec center.  Caused some trouble when we tried to pick a team instead of just letting the kids that were waiting play.

It was stupid both ways.  There was one team winning every game and staying together, and then another group of a guys with a few extra odd-balls that were getting sick of losing and being forced to play with those who can't play well.  We just wanted to put a good team on the floor and all people could say is "that's bullshit".  OK, "then change up your team so we can get some good games goin'" we said.

It really all comes down to one kid who really doesn't belong on the court, but people are being nice.  So I got worked up and said "this is the "bring it" court, if you want to play be nice basketball, there's an open court next door".  They didn't like that either.  You just can't please everyone I guess.  lol  And of course this is the one week where the court next door is open and there isn't enough people to play.  We usually have to deal with some mom or dad who want to see Jr. or Sally try to just hit the rim and we can't run two full games.  Annoying.  I get annoyed too easily, I know.

Couple o' good links fo' ya.

Software almost cost us the lives of the latest crew to return from the International Space Station.  There was a bug which landed the Soyez capsule way off course.  I came in much too steep and could have had heat problems as well.  This entry and reentry issue needs to be solved.  Hurry up with that space elevator!

A big idea in tracking goods these days is by using RFIDs, or Radio Frequency ID chips.  These little buggers get stuck on a crate or even on every piece of {clothing, electronics, shoes, etc} which allows the warehouses to track there every movement.  Problem, those RFID tags are built-in, so they continue to track you down the line.  Can you say Enemy of the State?  :(  So now they're talking about including a kill-switch so you can turn of that tracking device in your new Air Jordans©™®.

This one is a bit older but it's still good stuff.  It's about wired homes and convergence.  With broadband Internet access, digital TV via cable satellite or airwaves, and digital TVs, the whole computer/television/telephone issue is about to get a lot more interesting.

I need a shower and something to eat but I'm waiting on a call back about a Windows 2000 computer that was giving the dreaded "disk boot failure" message when turned on.  Hopefully I can save the day.

No luck.  Pick it up tomorrow for fixin'.

I'm currently setting up this free Lexmark Z35 printer I received along with my awesome deal with Dell.  (They don't want to be called Dell Computer anymore either.)  I think I'll use it just to print photographs - I've been using my B/W laser printer and that's OK, but color is so much nicer.  Let's give this a whirl, I just got some great new pictures at Chybo's place today...

WHAT AN F'N' JOKE!  I hate Lexmark, and I mean hate with every last bit of hatefulness in my poor little soul.  The software installed easily, the printer started off working great, but then in the middle of printing out a full-page glossy photo (usin' lots of ink and my good paper) the god-damned thing popped up the status window and that fuckin' voice said "there is a communication problem with the printer".  I've tried unplugging and replugging the USB cable, that just reinstalls a duplicate of the printer, which just screws things up further!  I bet a reboot may get it working again, but that just PISSES ME OFF.  My advice to everyone who reads this - never buy a Lexmark product.  I've not had a single problem-free encounter with any of their products.  I actually have 4 Lexmark printers here at my place, and NONE of these sonsofbitches work.  Three of them are just regular printers (two 3200 models and this new Z35), and I've also got a multifunction unit, Z62.  What a joke.

In much better news, I just grabbed a whole bunch of Happy 2b Hardcore from Terry's FTP site.  I love this stuff.  It's like psycho-hyper techno/trance music.  Good stuff.

Speakin' of Terry's site, man he's got a lot of cool stuff on there.  Like a pictures collage... a neat little java applet stolen from Weather.com, an Shoutcast Internet radio stream - where does he get all these great ideas?!  ;)
