1:56p - Word.  I gotta apologize to Rich for the entry yesterday.  I'm not trying to be a jerk, sometimes it just comes out that way.

Couple of cool things I've just come across.

  1. AT&T Labs - now here's a cool company.  They've been around forever, and they've done some serious research in to human vocal synthesis.  They've done extensive studies on how we speak, how we listen, etc.  So, it's fitting that they're developing a system that would fool most people in to thinking that they're talking to a live person, when in fact it's just a computer.  A very, very powerful computer.  Using their technology they can create what they've dubbed a "font" (great, confuse the old people!) of anyone's voice - meaning they could computerize the way you speak, and then say anything they want in your voice.  This is some really kick-ass SCI-FI action here folks.  I could be pranking you with your voice, now how's that for "OH SHIT!"s.  There's a lot more to read here, and a very cool demo where you can listen to how good this stuff really sounds here.
  2. Image: JAPAN-SONY-CAMCORD7E.jpgOK, next we've got an article from MSNBC's web site (are you surprised?).  This article is about some new products from Sony which use my favorite technology... everybody now... BLUETOOTH!  Two new video cameras being released are able to send still & moving images - along with sound - to your computer or other Bluetooth capable devices.  Not near your computer?  How about this scenario; While you're shooting video of Tommy's baseball game, your camera is wirelessly talking to your BT (Bluetooth) ready cell phone and sending the images back to your computer at home, while grandma sits and watches all the action.  Now that's some butt-kickin' good stuff.  The age of wires everywhere is slowly drawing to an end.  Pretty soon you'll just have stuff and it'll work with all the other stuff you have.  Stuff is a great word, isn't it?  Very versatile.
  3. doradusInternational Space Station Alpha has welcomed it's 3rd crew.  Space shuttle Discovery undocked this morning after delivering the new crew - Russian commander Yuri Usachev, & US engineers Jim Voss and Susan Helms.  The shuttle not only delivered the crew, but also supplies & hundreds of new scientific experiments that are to be conducted aboard this marvel of technology floating above our heads.  Many experiments will be conducted on the outside of the space station - which I think is a very important development.  We've had plenty of stuff (hehe) in space already, and even done lots of tests, but that was all done inside.  Finding out what happens to stuff (I love it!) while it's exposed to the extreme amounts of radiation in space will have a major impact on future missions.  After unloading all of the equipment and supplies, the Italian-made Leonardo Multi-Purpose Logistics Module was used to bring back over 2 tons of trash.  I don't know why they just don't let it burn up in the atmosphere, it's probably all highly-toxic or something.  Also, you mean to tell me some country other than the US is actually helping with the space station?  NO WAY?!  We've been holding up Russia's end of this thing since the beginning as far as the other material I've read.  This is definate food for thought in my Thoughts section, because I could go off big-time about space.  I think I'll go get that started right now...

OK, now you've got the Thoughts > Space page to keep you entertained.  I need to get some work done, so I'm outta here for now.

Sign the Guest Book and drop a text message to my cell phone (it's actually working again!).

Your favorite geek,

Ed
